Harry Potter!

This is my 100th article, and I nothing would be more appropriate than a Harry Potter tribute. Well, perhaps a Lord of the Rings tribute... but let's face it, Tolkien's not writing any more books these days, and Rowling is!

This summer is going to be an exciting one for Harry Potter fans. The fifth movie: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is set to release in theaters July 13 and the last book: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released July 21.

I must say, I have never looked forward to buying a book in my entire life. All of my theories, all of my suppositions will finally be confirmed or proved false with this book. So many questions answered... and my thesis will finally be completed. (Yeah, I know. Technically it's done, but that doesn't mean I've stopped working on it) And, of course, we will all know the biggest question of all: Will Harry live or die?

Of course, a big part of the fun is debating on what you think is going to happen next. Is Harry a horcrux? Will he die? Will he be able to kill Voldemort? If he uses an unforgivable curse on Voldemort, will he be any better than the dark lord?

I am, of course, re-reading each of the books to prepare for the final release, and watching the movies to prepare for the fifth movie's release. I actually keep these things separate in my mind, because the movies and books do not always flow so well together.

I don't know how many Pottheads JU has, but I know I can't be the only one. So, let's get the debates started!

Will Harry die?

Who else will die?

Is "RAB" Sirius' brother, Regulus?

Is the locket mentioned at Sirius' house the horcrux Dumbledore was after?

Is "love" the key?

Is Harry a Horcrux?

What are the Deathly Hallows, and where are they and why are they important?

What questions do you have?

Dont forget the "swoop" in the T.

And you have to say it in the "Potter" nasal voice. (Did anyone else see that episode of MASH the other night where Klinger is trying to copy Potter's signature?)

Congrats on your 100th! I like Harry Potter but only the movies so I'm not as versed as you guys!

I haven't read the books in a while....I suppose I'll buy the new one and have a HP marathon....

Forever: Yeah, if you've only watched the movies, you won't be as "up to snuff" as I am... but that's ok. All of the movies will be released eventually. Or, you could read the books...

Life: You should! I think marathons are the best things in the world. I love having movie marathons, as well as book marathons. You learn so much when you watch/read everything back to back.

My favorite movie was the third one. I thought that director was fabulous. The fourth movie didn't really do it for me.

The first one was really annoying. I blame Christopher Columbus the director for that. I enjoyed the way they made Hogwarts appear but... I dunno. Something was off for me.

JKR is such a wonderfully creative writer. I cannot believe she will kill off Harry, but you can bet it will be some very interesting and hair raising twisting that goes on. I am on the edge of my seat. Well, almost.

I love JKR because she takes the old fairy tale structure and inverts it. The typical fairy tale / fantasy story follows a certain structure, "1. A prophecy is made concerning the hero. 2. The Hero is born. 3. The Hero is abandoned / an attempt is made on the Hero's life. 4. Skip childhood and go straight to adolescence. 5. preparation stage. 6. Entrance of donor." and so on and so forth. All of these things have happened to Harry Potter, but we didn't hear about the prophecy until book 5! That's so cool. She's done other stuff too, but I'm pretty tired right now, and I can't think straight without sleep. However, if someone asks, I would be willing to expound further. (Who am I kidding? I'm going to write about it whether anyone cares or not, because I'm that much of a dork)

I have this weird theory that Draco Malfoy will have a change of heart and sacrifice himself to save Harry.
I know, it sounds pretty weird...

OT:  Have you seen that they are publishing a new LOTR book?  The Children of Hurin?

I actually don't think it's that strange. A few books ago, the Sorting Hat's song implied that the only way to overcome the great evil was for all of the houses to unite. While having Draco turn from the "dark side" may be a bit too Star Wars, it is still a good possibility. After all, he couldn't kill Dumbledore.

Yeah, Barnes&Nobel sent me a coupon for it, and Amazon has it listed #1 on my recommendations page. It's scary how much they know about me... After I wrote that whole "Tolkien's not coming out with any new books" thing, I remembered about the Children of Hurin. I don't think I'll buy it, but wait and ask for it for Christmas. For some reason, having other people buy it for me makes me feel less geeky.
