As I was walking home from Walgreens today, I saw my friend John sitting outside his apartment. I stopped to chat, and he told me that there was a kitten around his house. We thought we had seen one a few nights ago, but then we thought it was a neighbor cat. Turns out, it was a kitten and she was, at that moment hiding in a tree. I heard her meow, and saw a ball of white in the tree. We got her out of there, fed her tuna and milk, gave her a bath, some Frontline, and got her home. Of course, she escaped into John's car at one point, and it took forever to get her out. I won't give you the details, but I will say that we had to use a lightsaber.

Now, because of the fleas, she's living in my bathroom. My roommate's cat has hissed at her, but did not attack, so I took that as a good sign. We gave her flea medicine and worm medicine. We're going to take her to the vet tomorrow.

John and I named her Rowan. It suits her perfectly. I think John loves her more than I do, but he's allergic to cats, so she has to live with me. What a day!

What a little cutie . . . if I wasn't allergic, I'd be jealous.

She's asleep in my lap right now... and she hasn't stopped purring.

Oh, and that's John holding her in his shirt, and then our neighbor Jessica is holding her in the second picture. Jessica had flea and tick shampoo and gave her her first bath. She was one grubby kitty. The water was nasty. And, since she ran up into John's car after her bath, she's pretty grubby again.

John loves this little cat. I know he does, because he wouldn't let her go, even after he got hives.

Awww...cute little calico kitty.  I hope she does well!  Glad to hear that you rescued her from the tree and are getting her to the vet.

Welome to the cat club!  When she gets older (the cat, not you., you can post her story.

She is a cutie!

Be very careful with flea and tick meds on such a young kitty, SHE! (i know it's too late now but if you didn't poison her consider it a serious stroke of luck.)

I'm sure we didn't poison her. Our neighbor Jessica has the meds and, as she just got rid of her last kitten, the knowledge of how much to give them. She even has the tiny syringe looking things that you give them the medicine with. We used the kitten amounts of everything.

She looks in bad shape, I hope she regains her health quickly, god bless you for taking her in, she obviously needed you.

As of this morning, she was sleeping up high on a shelf in our bathroom. I have no idea how she got there. She also looks much better -- brighter eyes, bushier tail -- that sort of stuff. She also ate with what I can only call gusto.

Oh, and she only had a few sips of milk. She preferred the tuna.

Glad to hear that you rescued her from the tree and are getting her to the vet.

This is actually the second cat rescued from the same tree. The first, Fuzzy Butt (or Skylar) went to my roommate's boyfriend's parents. Rowan is mine. (Well, mine and John's) I will, of course, be getting her fixed as soon as possible. Our city does a discount rate spay/neuter if you qualify, and I should.

Welcome to the cat club!

Thanks!

She is a cutie!

Isn't she? I'm not even a big cat person, but I think she's adorable.

Oh SHE...I love cats...LOVE them.

Almost enough to put up with the hair on the furniture...heh.  But for some reason a few years ago I started getting stuffy and teary eyed around them.

And except for a few outside cats who owned me when I was a kid...I don't have good luck with them.

Reminds me of my kitten when I got her. I wish we hadn't had to toss her out onto the street. Was very very sad that she kept attacking our newborn.

Why couldn't you send her to a shelter?
on Jun 29, 2007
Because we did that with the first cat we had to give away, and they wouldn't take her. We did not have papers for her. So why bother to make the trip to a place that isn't going to take her anyway? If the first one had gone better, we might have done so with the second.

I don't like cats. Kittens are cute, but they grow up into cats. I was against getting the cat and the kitten in the first place, but someone just had to have pets. I don't want pets. So we compromised and got two. That I had to take care of. And this was my WIFE, not my kid. Gah.

Stupid not-allowed-to-change-the-litter-when-your-pregnant cop-out.

But, that had nothing to do with the getting rid of said cat. In fact, I tried to keep the cat as long as possible. But 3 attacks in a week is not cool.

She did look quite a bit like SHEs new kitten, so...
on Jun 30, 2007
Hmm. Let me think. Unwanted pet population, or son in danger...

She attacked him while I wasn't home, so we put her out of the house. Then, when I went to get her to take her to the shelter as a stray, she wouldn't come near me. I tried everytime I saw her, but I could not catch her.
