Since the recent cold snap, I've had to wear my old jeans that are too big for me. Unfortunately for me, not only are they too big because I've lost a good deal of weight, but also because they stretch like crazy. However, they're the only pair of jeans I have left, and it's too cold to wear my new Capri pants that actually fit. So, I'm going to Walmart this afternoon in my two-sizes too big pants. They keep heading south, mostly because of the keys in my pocket, but I keep hitching the...

I was recently given a very nice, very large golf umbrella as a "thank you" for being an RA. It's wonderful. I can walk in the rain, and I stay dry! Much better than the tiny umbrellas I've used in the past. Of course, in order to stay dry, I must actually carry it to class. Today, I did not. There was sun shine this morning and since I do not check the weather, only the temperature, I was unaware of the weather I was in for today. I left German to walk back to my dorm (across camp...

Yup, that's right -- I was volunteered for a pie in the face. I knew nothing about it until I looked at the sign above the elevator in my dorm. It said: "Revenge is Sweet Pie is Sweeter Which RA will YOU hit in the face?" Then it said, "Who's ahead?" and surprise of surprises, THERE'S MY NAME!! WTF?!? I don't remember agreeing to this, and I'm sure it's not in my contract. There is that "other duties as assigned" clause that covers all the stupid shit they make me do, like for...

A friend of mine posted the video seen below, and I thought it was a good example of how distorted our sense of beauty is. I've written before about the false images of beauty that are pushed on women of all ages and how those images are damaging. Here's a quote from an article I wrote... oh, years ago: "We are sold cosmetics, hair dye, teeth whiteners, hair gel, bikini wax, diet pills, anti-wrinkle cream, lip sticks, self-help books, exercise videos and scary looking tools ...

As most of you know, I am a college student. Every day, I walk around campus, to and from class, to and from meetings, to and from the library... you get the point. In the five years I've been here, I've noticed a certain trend. When I started school, at least half of the students I saw walking across campus would be talking on their cell phones, and another 10-15% were smoking. Only about 10% were listening to mp3 players. Fast forward to five years later, and only about 10% of the stud...

I got a new Dell laptop a little over a year ago. The computer came with a game consul that allowed me to sample several of their games. I played stuff with penguins, and stuff with jewels. Then, I played FATE. It's a silly little game where you complete quests in a dungeon to gain money, fame and experience. You can learn different kinds of weapons, be a magician, and all kinds of neat, dorky stuff. I was dating a gamer at the time, so I thought this would give me something to talk abo...

It is cold and wet outside. I am lucky to have a large umbrella now, because I had to be outside a lot today. However, it is 9pm, and I don't feel like going back outside. I'm supposed to go to an informational meeting that has nothing to do with me, but might help me answer questions that my residents have -- of course, this means the residents didn't go to the meeting either, so I don't see why I should have to suffer for them if they aren't willing to suffer for themselves. Unfortu...

Since I got the email telling me I was accepted into UofA, I've been setting about getting things ready for the move up there. One of my best friends is already living up there, and told me there was an open apartment in her complex. The complex is within walking distance of the school and downtown. It's really nice because I wouldn't have to use my car much at all! This is a good thing since gas is so expensive. I called the building manager to ask about the apartment. He said, since...

I figured since I referenced this trilogy in my last article, that I should write a review of it. So, here goes! The Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix As you can tell by the title, this is a set of three books: Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen. There is a fourth book called, "Across the Wall", but it is a collection of short stories, most of which have nothing to do with the trilogy, so that's all I'm going to say about it. The trilogy is in the fantasy genre (as I'm sure you've guessed s...

While I'm supposed to be writing my paper, I've also been watching movies. It isn't exactly conducive to writing to watch movies, but I do it anyway. I usually watch movies that I've seen multiple times so that I don't really have to pay attention to know what's going on. But I digress from the point. I'm watching, appropriately enough, Easter Parade with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire. I really adore this movie. It has one of my favorite lines of all time in it. Judy had been singing...

I'm stalling right now. I should be writing my paper, but I've hit a temporary mental block, so I'm writing this to 1. kill time, 2. relieve stress and 3. bitch, whine and complain. The professor that went mean is my Literary Theory and Criticism teacher. She gave us one week to write a 7 page research paper with four outside sources. That's just plain mean, but it gets worse. Every student in the class is doing their paper on the same poet. This means major competition over library s...
